Hey again all, school's been time consuming and such so I haven't had as much time to do these. Sorry about that. However, they will still continue with slight delay. Anyways, for today I will be looking at why certain archtypes top and what you can do to strengthen ones that do not top. There are a few key pieces to the powerful archtypes that are the huge reasons why all of them are so good.
Okay, Let's look at a T-chart on the important things in a deck vs the archtypes that top. The pieces for good archtypes are the following: Easy searching(S) Strong plays that can be done easily and reliably(SP) powerful combos with close or having OTK ability(OTK) normal summon/easy summon cards that are effective(ES) Draw power<a deck needs either that or search ability>(DP)

So these are a few archtypes that you can se have 4-5 checks each. If you looked at weaker archtypes you would see them only having maybe 2 or 3 checks. So this is why these archtypes top. Inzektors search with sangan and centipede even dragonfly. windups search with factory and summon out of deck stuff. DW search with snoww and also have HUGE draw power. Heros search with ecal, rota, stratos, hero lives. they also have huge draw capability in the Dhero engine. Rabbits search by abusing tour guide to hunt out sangan for rescue rabbit. Xsabers have a floaters AND searchers AND summon from deck cards. Hieratics search with convocation, draw with cardcar. you will notice that i specifically noted the drawing power and searching power. This is THE THING that makes them so good. I cannot stress enough how important search power and draw power are. No matter how good your combos are, if you cannot guarantee having them then the deck wont win. And yet you notice Chaos isnt on the draw or search list. But its been topping for a while now, even doing fine in the new format! how!? well, chaos has a few things its SO GOOD AT that it doesnt matter. When you have 8-10 cards in your deck that say i draw this its on the field and powerful. When you have monsters that you can loop together to never die. When you have monsters that can OTK on their own. When you have monsters that make your opponent afraid to attack because you could pop a huge beater for it. And the anchor of chaos, when you have normal summon monsters that give you field control, draw ability, and beatdown in Card trooper, Lyla, and Ryko that do all this while giving you the summon chains, that is why chaos can top without search or serious draw power.

So now we know why good archtypes are good. So how does this help us? well you probably have your own deck you like but your archtype just doesnt have search ability. Darn. I guess this tells me my deck cant be competitive... Wrong! There are many ways to make up for lack of draw power/search power. need searchers? try sangan. cant work? try floaters. Giant rat, Mystic Tomato, Masked Dragon, etc. Need draw power? try duality. not enough? try reckless greed if youre a huge combo deck, shard of greed if youre more slow, upstart goblin, trade-in, allure of darkness, cards like this that are universal. you CAN get draw power and search power even if your archtype doesnt have it.

These are the baselines of a powerful archtype. THIS is why heros will continue to top for ever and ever no matter what happens. They have SO MUCH SEARCH POWER and some of THE best draw engines in the game. Mixed hero beat/bubble beat/Ddraw decks are very capable of being powerful. Heros have everything. they have search power, they have easy combos in miracle fusion, fusion gate, super poly, xyz, they have OTK potential with cards like bladearmorninja spammed with fusions, they have strong normal summons with Alius+gemini spark/hero blast. they even have huge draw potential. If youre an up-and-coming Hero player be looking around these, for my first archtype specific day ill do heros(Herobreakduelacademy and im doing heros, crazy right?)

So remember these things when we go into specific archtype parts and when building your own decks.
