this an answer , and i can tell you mermail alone are fun deck , but with atalanta become broken ^^

mermails alone are really bad...
they have no destruction at all, and everything is using the hand and the grave, they have no draw engine, they have no +'s, you either half-swarm the field and waste your entire hand, or you dont have field presence and a giant glob of nothingness in your hand

PLUS atlanteans came out first and mermails support atlanteans, not the other way around, mermails give atlanteans the effects they need to pop cards
atlanteans can do it without mermails too with genex undine and other good cards.
the only + i can think of in mermails is abyss-sphere for abysslinde, special spike/turge, discard gunde, and that is breaking even because of sphere.

mermail alone : fun deck
atalanta alone : can be comepetitve
togther : broken
